Doug Korver has led a poultry nutrition research program at the University of Alberta since 1997. In 2023, he started Alpine Poultry Nutrition, Inc. to provide poultry nutrition technical services to the global poultry industry. Doug is also a host on the Poultry Podcast Show, available on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts.
Doug has given scientific and industry conference talks in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. He has given talks across a variety of broiler, layer and broiler breeder management and nutrition topics. However, he is best known for his work in gut health and alternatives to antibiotics and nutrition and management of long-cycle laying hens
Doug Korver received a Ph. D. from the University of California, Davis in 1997. After a post-doctoral position at the University of Saskatchewan, he started at the University of Alberta. Doug has published over 75 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and is a sought-after speaker for scientific and industry conferences around the world. He is a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine's committee to update the Nutrient Requirements of Poultry. Doug was made a fellow of the Poultry Science Association in 2021.
Doug Korver received a Ph. D. in nutrition from the University of California, Davis. In 1997, he joined the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor , and was made Professor in 2010.
In addition to practical research on feedstuff quality and dietary supplement evaluation in poultry diets, Doug’s work focuses on nutrition-immune function interactions and bone biology in meat- and egg-type poultry. He has authored or co-authored over 75 peer-reviewed articles, and 10 book chapters. In 2016, he spent a 6-month sabbatical in Colombia, working with a major broiler integrator. He is currently part of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s committee to revise and update the 1994 Nutrient Requirements of Poultry.
Doug has developed an international reputation as a science communicator to the poultry industry. Based on his own research and the published literature, he brings clarity to complex scientific issues and shares that knowledge at an audience-appropriate level. He has given numerous talks at international scientific conferences, industry symposia, in-house training and customer visits on behalf of commercial partners.
In 2023, Doug decided to reduce his involvement at the University of Alberta to be able to focus on a new challenge - serving the global poultry nutrition industry. Doug remains committed to ongoing research trials and will continue to contribute to cutting edge research. As the driving force behind Alpine Poultry Nutrition, he will now be able to devote more time to meeting your poultry nutrition consulting needs.
